Subject: My shadow person story
I would like to share a story. This is a true story, and it has bothered me for nearly 20 years.
Below is a link to the general area where the sighting happened. I would love to provide a rough sketch of the area, if that is possible.
In the summer of 1999 I had just graduated from high school. During this summer, late in August, myself, and 4 other friends decided to go fishing late in the afternoon, early evening. My friend Josh suggested we go to Caesar’s Creek Spillway off of Roxanna New Burlington Rd, because he heard large catfish get spit out of the spillway into the small stream there . This is a little area very close to Xenia, OH, near Spring Valley. We arrived there just as the sun was beginning to set. In order to enter the site, you pull off of Roxanna-New Burlington road, and must drive down a small hill to enter the parking lot. This lot is completely surrounded by trees. Then it is a short two-minute walk to the site where we fished. The site is hard to describe, but I will try my best. The spillway is a small dam where water from Caesars Creek empties into a very small stream. This is a very small stream and dam. You could almost jump across it if it was not for the thick, metal pole fence posted up on both sides. If you actually look at the dam there are maybe 10 stairs on each side that lead to the top, and wrap around to the other side of the stream. So basically you can walk to the other side. Behind you is the parking lot that is a few minute walk away. Slightly behind you, to the left, are steep rocky hills that you could not safely climb. Directly to the left you can see Roxanna-New Burlington road just up a hill. Every other direction is trees, and some open areas.
We fished for several hours, and it was getting late into the evening. Probably close to midnight, if not later. I honestly cannot remember, I just know it was dark, and the moon was out strong. We were all standing by the fence eagerly awaiting to catch something, when all my 4 other friends stepped about 10ft back for some reason and were talking. Several minutes passed, and I was just hanging out watching the fishing poles.
As my friends were talking, I am watching off in the distance across the stream. I noticed out of nowhere that a figure appeared on the stairs on the other side of the stream. Maybe 15-20 feet away. The figure started walking down the stairs, and I thought it was weird, but didn’t realize completely what was going on yet.
It was at this point my friend Danny said, “Jeremy, what are you doing on the other side!!?” Then I said to Danny, “I’m not on the other side, I’m right here!” At this point my eyes were locked on the apparition. By the time it made it down the stairs on the other side of the stream, my friends are all right next to me watching it. At this moment I realize I can’t make out any features of the person I am seeing. The face does not exist. He/she is close to 7ft tall, if not more, slightly hunched, and is wearing either some sort of garb with a hood, or a top hat. Then I start to get really anxious when I realize this being isn’t walking, it’s gliding. As if it were standing on an escalator. As the apparition is slowly gliding down the path on the opposite side of the stream, I notice that it is darker than night, and I struggle to make out any real features than it is lanky, and that it is wearing some sort of hat or hood.
As the being glides down the path, it reaches a part where the fencing ends and you can walk right up to the bank of the stream. The figure proceeded to the bank of the stream, and sat down in a position where it was looking straight at us. At this point there is one feature I was able to distinguish that has stayed with me my entire life since that night. He had two glowing orange eyes, like a cigarette cherry. Two bright orange glowing eyes, that seemed to be dim orange, and get brighter, and get dim again. They just kept repeating this pattern.
At this point, I was well aware that what I was seeing was something I could not explain. My friends, however, didn’t realize what was going on. After the figure sat down my friends began to yell at it. Stuff like, “Hey, who are you?”, “Where did you come from?”, “What are you doing over there?” The apparition did not answer and in confusion and curiosity, some of my friends began throwing small rocks at it. They appeared to go right through it. After maybe a minute, everyone started to realize this wasn’t a human, and that was our cue to pack up and head out ASAP. We walked out of there as fast as we could, with 2 people walking backward to make sure it didn’t follow us.
That is my story. It’s one of those things that sticks with you for your entire life. Every few months I think about this and can’t help but get goosebumps. I always have a lingering feeling that someday I might meet this “shadow person” again.
I’ve attempted to tell this story a few times to other friends, and am always met with denial, and the feeling that people think I’m crazy. Had I experienced this encounter alone, I would have shrugged it off as my mind playing tricks with me. As it stands though, I have 4 other friends that had the same experience. That makes it very hard for me to shrug off.
I’m not exactly sure I believe in ghosts. Not in the typical sense anyway that they are dead people walking the earth, or demon’s ready to possess unsuspecting victims. I do however believe that there are things in this universe/multiverse, or whatever you want to call it that science cannot explain. I feel with 100% certainty that I saw something science cannot explain. For all I know, it could have been an alien, a time traveler from the past or future, or a species from another dimension that somehow crossed into our fabric of time and was able to be seen. I’m not even sure this thing realized we were there, but we sure realized it was.
Anyway, people can take it how they want, with a grain of salt, or in full belief. I can wholeheartedly attest what I just wrote is accurate, and truthful. I can also attest that we were not on drugs, or drinking.
Do not got to Caesar’s Creek Spillway off of Roxanna-New Burlington road by yourself. Seriously, DO NOT GO THERE ALONE!
